Ang Panghuhudas sa Sariling Wika

“The fact that I have to write this piece in English tells a lot about how we have become as a people,” as to what the author said that strikes me the most. It tells us people like him needs to speak in English just to get his message across the people who do not believe in his cause and I think that that is sad because it tells us a lot as to what we have become as people of our country. Ningas kugon or not finishing what we have started is a reality amongst Filipinos since all of our claims to being “makabayan” and “makapinoy” are short-lived since we cannot commit ourselves into believing and living out the claims we say. While our education system is one of the culprits of this mentality, we cannot come clean since we are in with the problem of our society which is we still disregard to show nationalism in the phase of having a choice to do so. We still choose the other over our own even though we know what right thing to do is. We need to be aware of our actions, since not only is the economic status of the Philippines affected by our choosing of foreign brands but also our language is under threat and on defense. Be one of the people who would defend the integrity of our language and pass on the flames of passion to our language.
